The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has to be one of the great values out there. Classic darker currants, tobacco, chocolate, and some gravelly earth notes all define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a round, supple, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. It's more than worth it's going rate.

Polished, with a core of plum sauce and warm cassis, this version has an enticing toasty frame and a backdrop of sweet tobacco and singed anise. Pitch perfect for near-term consumption. (JM)

One of the greatest bargains in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Caterwaul's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley draws largely on co-proprietor Matt Hardin's Pope Valley vineyards, but it bolsters those barrels with other bits and pieces from winemaker (and co-proprietor) Thomas Rivers Brown's other projects. Boasting gently herbal notes of sage and bay leaf that perfectly complement the ripe black cherries, it's full-bodied, rich, concentrated, velvety and long. No, it's not overly complex, but it is a solid entry-level Cab at a price most producers can't touch. (JC)

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is packed with blueberry, lavender, licorice, dark chocolate, mocha and sweet spice. The lush, juicy style will appeal to readers who enjoy the more exuberant side of Napa Valley. As is always the case, the straight Cabernet here delivers superb quality for the money. (AG)

Notes

Jeb Dunnuck's consistently scored this wine in the mid-90s for the years leading up to this bottling, but has not reviewed this vintage. His notes on the producer: "Carerwaul is a new collaboration between superstar winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and Matt Hardin from Barbour Vineyard Management. Started in 2014, they produce a Napa Valley Cabernet from Matt’s estate vineyard in Pope Valley and a Regusci Vineyard release from Stags Leap. As Cabernet goes from Napa Valley, these are incredible values that should be snatched up by readers." 91/2019)
