Barrel-fermented with native yeasts and spontaneous malolactic fermentation, it's a richly structured wine, powerful in concentration and anchored in earth but maintains a salty, tangy freshness that's persistent through a long finish. The 2019 Chardonnay (Santa Cruz Mountains) is such a beautiful wine. Apricot, tangerine peel, baked apple tart and tropical accents are front and center in this mid-weight yet exuberant Chardonnay from Fogarty. (AG)

Today we have a stunning deal on a great bottle of Santa Cruz Mountain Chardonnay from longtime stalwart Thomas Fogarty! This absolutely delicious bottle of Chardonnay has had the wonderful benefit of getting a few years to settle in bottle and is drinking in it's prime like a nice bottle of white Burgundy...without the huge price tag! I'm a big fan of Fogarty and what winemaker Nathan Kandler has been doing there for many years. This wine shows great concentration from their estate-grown, mature vine Chardonnay, mostly grown around 2000ft elevation up near Skyline Blvd that runs along the ridgeline of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The wine is packed with that signature rocky minerality, golden orchard fruit, toasted almond and salted citrus. The wine is showing a lovely light golden hue but has tons of energy and freshness with tangy minerals and wonderful length on the palate. From Thomas Fogarty's mountain estate on the Skyline ridge, this Chardonnay represents the winery's core estate bottling rather than a single-vineyard selection. The vineyards sit high above Silicon Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, where cool Pacific influence and thin mountain soils have made the estate a longtime benchmark for California Chardonnay.
