2022 d'Armailhac, Pauillac

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 22% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. A sweet, concentrated, spirited character on the nose, all primary bramble, currant and black cherry fruits. The palate is no less imposing than the aromatic profile, with layers of dark fruits, bramble, currant, dark chocolate, liquorice and black pepper, all set in a silky and seamless palate, lying over a core of dark, tightly knit, polished tannins. So long, gripped, stylish, rich in grip and structure, with amazing tannic structure, perfectly polished and smoky, and integrated with dark threads of fruit, this is stunning. Such rich potential here, and more convincing than my primeurs or post-bottling tastings;people will be drinking this decades from now and singing the virtues of this vintage. The alcohol is 14.5% on the label.

Punch of black fruits and spice, concentrated, impressive vintage of d'Armailhac, quite different in character from this estate even five or 10 years ago - rarely has this wien shown such depth and powerful character.
