This rosé from Petiau is so easy to love—it’s fresh, floral, and just the right balance of fruit and finesse. You’ll get raspberry and wild strawberry on the nose, with a little citrus flower lift that keeps it super bright. There’s a soft creaminess underneath, but it never goes heavy.

The nose on this is absolute ethereal, there's something really pretty and fleeting about it, like I'm smelling the ghost of a fresh strawberry, still fresh but every elusive to my eye. The palate however, is very down to earth and delicious, the fruit is riper than you would expect from the nose, but that's certainly welcome in my house. There's a really pretty ripe strawberry and just perfect raspberry playing together on the palate with a nice medium-plus kind of weight to the fruit. The finish is long and just a little tart at the very end as the acidity and fruit diverge a bit on the palate. This is just so lovely, and deserves a little bit more love and attention. It's good wine, Brett.

Rose champagne is one of the fastest growing categories, now making up 11% of all champagne production with most of the exports landing in the United States. Petiau, a hundred year old plus Grower-Producer based in the Montage de Reims 1er cru village of Trepail, just started exporting in 2023 and we are a better nation for it. Their Rose is delicious! Grapefruit, lemon peel, peaches and cream, red fruit, and toast, with freshness and vibrancy that makes it a perfect poolside sipper.

Notes

This all estate grown rosé is a blend of even parts chardonnay and Pinot Noir and is aged for four years on the lees. It comes from the village of Trépail on the east slope of the Mountian of Reims, and the Petiau family uses red wine from the boarder of Ambonnay to give this wine its color and depth of rosé aroma and flavor. With genorous baguette toast, Raineer cherry fruit and a dry, mineral finish, this is one of the best grower rosés I have had in a long time. -Gary Westby
