You've been drinking Lasanta for years, but now Glenmorangie has expanded their extra-matured Sherry options to include a truly rare Sherry cask: Palo Cortado! If you're not familiar with one of Spain's greatest wines, Palo Cortado is a complex style of Sherry that is a cross between fino (dry) and an Oloroso. It begins its life under flor, aging without the presence of oxygen, and mysteriously the flor dies off, leaving the whisky to age oxidatively like an Oloroso. It is a "best of both worlds" situation when it comes to Sherry, offering bright and salty/mineral notes in addition to sweet dark fruits, nuts, and raisins. Its impact on Glenmorangie is much the same; the Glenmorangie Palo Cortado Twelve Year offers notes of toffee, fudge, vanilla and rich sweet flavors of chocolate, raisins, dark plums, bitter orange peel, and salted nuts.
