Coming all from Rutherford, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beauty and a small step up over the 2018. Ripe currants, cassis, scorched earth, tobacco leaf, and lead pencil all define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a wonderful sense of purity and freshness, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This is classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon done with a terrific mix of richness and finesse. It's going to cruise for 15 years.

A worthy successor to the splendid 2018 (96 points), Stalworth's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon comes across as slightly riper and more black-fruited. Cassis and black cherries join more savory tones of dark loam and black olives on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is concentrated, rich and velvety. It might lack some of the brightness and vivacity of the 2018, but it's still a standout. 94+ (JC)

Packed with winey cassis, cherry reduction and plum puree flavors, though they are well-defined and pure, with violet, light sweet bay leaf and licorice accents adding range in the background. The solidly built finish has a subtle loamy tug, while the fruit pours through. Best from 2023 through 2035. (JM)
