2019 Bodegas Roda "Roda I" Blanco Rioja Reserva
95
James Suckling
Review Date: 05/2022Austere, mineral nose with lots of wet stone, quince and a discreet expression of lemon pastry and fine lees that extend to the rich, flavorful and buttery palate. A full-bodied palate carries it with fresh, medium acidity and a long, creamy finish. A hint of pomelo skins. Viura, Malvasia and some Garnacha Blanca. Very serious.

Notes
The first ever white wine from this iconic Rioja producer is mostly Viura with a little Malvasia, and Garnacha Blanca. It is fermented French oak vats and then aged in large barrels for 18 months before aging for an additional 18 months in bottle before it was released. Full bodied and elegant, the oak is subtle and framing. With ripe stone fruit and citrus on the nose, a rich palate and mineral driven finish. This is an incredibly elevated white Rioja.
