Notes
Casa Castilla is one of the most important producers of Jumilla. Over the last 30 years Jose Maria Vicente and the wines that he has crafted have not only put Jumilla on the international wine map but has changed the perception of the region's most important varietal, Monastrell. La Tendida is a new label in the portfolio of Casa Castillo. This wine takes its name from the parcel where the fruit is sourced. The site has clay-limestone soils that is covered in a deep layer of gravel. The age of the vine is 10-20 years, they are farmed organically. This is a blend of 85% Monastrell and 15% Garnacha, it is fermented 30% whole cluster with native yeast in concrete vats. The wine is then aged for one year in a mix of 5000L foudre and neutral 500L French oak barrels. This is a vibrant and expressive Jumilla. It has the intensity that is expected from the Monastrell but the Garnacha and neutral oak aging which brightens the fruit and gives it an unexpected elegance. This is a delivers the classic bold Mediterranean flavors of the region but with more complexity, subtlety and nuance. This can easily be paired with heavily spiced grilled meats as it would with the region's classic dish, paella.
