2021 Hirsch "Estate" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
95
The Wine Independent
The 2021 Hirsch Vineyards Estate Chardonnay is quite closed to start off, soon opening out to notes of white peaches, crunchy pears, and Golden Delicious apples, with touches of coriander seed and baking bread. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly styled and tightly knit, with tons of apple and stone fruit layers supported by just enough freshness, delivering a long, chalky finish.

Notes
Composed of Chardonnay sourced from biodynamically farmed vineyards that grow on sandstone soils in Fort-Ross Seaview. Aged in French and Austrian oak barrels, 27% of which were new. Tasting notes from the producer: "On the nose, the wine showcases notes of green apple, Asian pear, stone fruit flowers and lemon curd. The acidity is present but balanced, and the mouthfeel is sappy but energetic. At this young age, the fruit is a bit shy. Drinkable and mouthwatering now, it will gain in weight and complexity with age."
