One of the standouts of the range is the 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot (Domaine Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, layered and seamless wine evocative of pear, orange oil and pastry cream. Bright and chalky, it's beautifully balanced and built to age. The 2020 vintage has turned out beautifully at this address, delivering concentrated, flavorful wines with alcohol levels between 13.3% and 13.7% and with low pHs. Winemaker Frédéric Barnier told me that efforts were made to pick earlier in the day, and that fruit waiting to be processed was kept fresh in a special cold room. In the cellar, foudres and 500-liter barrels now complement classic 228-liter pièces, a further evolution adapting to warmer, riper vintages. But aside from the quality of the 2020s and these technical developments, described in more detail in the accompanying tasting notes, there's other noteworthy news too: in 2021, Jadot entered into organic conversion for their domaine vineyards. The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Abbaye de Morgeot 1er Cru has a very harmonious bouquet, fine mineralité and tension, focused and displaying impressive energy. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity quite complex and poised with just the right amount of bitterness on the finish to urge you back. Very fine. This should age with style. Burghound

Review Date: 06/2022
A smoky blend offers up notes of ripe apple, pear and lemon confit. There is excellent volume if less minerality to the larger-scaled and more concentrated medium-bodied flavors that display focused power on the lingering bitter lemon-inflected finish that is more tightly wound than usual. Solid quality here in a package that should be accessible young but have no trouble repaying up to a decade of keeping. *Burghound Outstanding!*

Notes

91-94pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Fullish, yellowish colour, while the bouquet shows a fair amount of oak. The full weight of Morgeot is lurking. It all works though. If you want a white Burgundy with significant volume of flesh without forcing the ripeness too far, this will do the job. Just the right balance here. Tasted: November 2021."
