The 2020 Meursault Porusot 1er Cru is a powerful, super-concentrated wine. Orchard fruit, mint, ginger, dried flowers and licorice all open in the glass. More than anything else, though, the Porusot stands out for its deep core of minerality and overall presence. The 2020 was done only from Porusot Dessous. The fruit from Roulot’s Dessus portion, which was recently replanted, was blended into the villages. (Tasted by Antonio Galloni)

Burghound

This is also aromatically restrained with its combination of green fruit, lemon-lime and softly spicy scents. The sleek, powerful and concentrated big-bodied flavors flash evident muscle on the impressively persistent, youthfully austere and balanced finale. This is a wine of contrasts as the mid-palate is succulent while the finale is definitely compact and tightly wound - patience strongly advised. *Burghound Outstanding!*

The 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Porusot wafts from the glass with notes of lime zest, white flowers, pear, orange oil and hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and precise, it's chalky and mineral, with a racy, tightly wound profile by the standards of a climat that often produces a more demonstrative style of Meursault. Jean-Marc Roulot likes his 2020s out of the gates. Comparing them with his 2019s, wines which took time to come together with élevage and in bottle, he observes that "I see myself so much more in the 2020s." The whole domaine was picked between August 20 and 29, three days less than it generally takes Roulot's team, and he reports pHs and alcohols similar to 2017. In the cellar, he's using less new oak, adding ceramic vessels and foudres. The result is a compelling range of pure, precise and expressive whites that will delight admirers of Roulot's fine-boned, incisive style. I can't wait to revisit them from bottle. (WK)

Notes

92-95pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Picked on 23rd August, 13.0% alcohol, 4.10TA and 3.16pH. Fresh pale colour, made just from the old vines in the lower part, as the upper plot is being replanted. This definitely has the concentrated, chiselled aspect of classic Roulot, tightly knit, with very pure white fruit and excellent persistence. Tasted: 10/1/2021." Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "There is a higher and lower section but the higher was replanted, so for a few vintages the grapes came only from the dessous section. 2020 is the first harvest that includes the younger vines too. Wide, vibrant, with mineral and citrus clarity too – a great start. Bubbling, energetic but not too much, melting, almost juicily over the palate – not too much rigour. A seriously great Poruzots!."
