The young Abel Martinez is becoming some what of a star. In the small community Santo Domingo Albarradas, the quite yet confident young Master produces some of Mexico's finest spirits. Working primarily in small batches with Rezpiral, the social justice focused fair trade bottler of artisanal mezcal, he's made a name for himself internationally. In 2020, Abel's Espadin was selected as the best in a large tasting by the New York Times' tasting panel. He's not resting on his laurels. This exceptional batch of wild harvest Mexicanito is extremely rare. Mexicanito is a smaller version of the much adored Agave Mexicano, which has many local names. For some reason this field of Mexicano grew much smaller than the normal Mexicano, hence the diminutive Mexicanito. The plants were caponed (quixote cut) and left to mature for more than a year before harvesting. They were roasted in volcanic ovens for over a week before being double distilled on small copper pots. The resulting mezcal is complex beyond belief.
