Love the black currant, slate, violet and lilac aromas. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a wonderful finish. This is polished and linear. Beautiful backbone through the center palate. Almost all cabernet sauvignon makes this fantastic. Drink or hold.

This is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc, made by Bordeaux winemakers Gonzague and Claire Lurton from their Chalk Hill property as well as other sites around the county. Leathery and earthy at its core, it's possessed of a soft grip of cassis and violet, structured and smooth on the palate with a light touch to the ripeness. (VB)

Dark, sweetly sticky liquorice, bramble fruits and tar - smells heady and ripe with some nice florality too. Rich and concentrated on the palate with some rustic touches of wood spice, cinnamon and clove, so it has spice but it's also soft and sweet and there's great minty freshness here too. Structured and bold with an excellent scented juicy quality which is really pleasant. A playful mid palate and core with a nice frame of spice and cooling mint touches. Round, full and in your face - it's bold but with some delicate and charming styling dotted throughout. (GH)

Notes

Erin Brooks writes in Wine Advocate: "Gonzague and Claire Lurton own several properties in Bordeaux, including Durfort Vivens, Ferrière, Haut-Bages Liberal and La Gurgue. In 2012, they acquired a vineyard in Sonoma County, with the aim of producing Bordeaux-inspired white and red blends. In 2014 they built a small winery and ripped out some of the original vines, planted in 1998, to plant more Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. French-born vigneron Nicolas Vonderheyden oversees management of the vineyards and winemaking. These are classically styled, restrained wines that represent great value." (12/2019)
