Tasted blind. Very pale in colour. A little more depth of fruit than some, but still quite introspective. Rounded, there's some weight and glycerol. Plenty of rooibos tea, and rhubarb on the palate. Long, slender. A very elegant wine, this is brave winemaking. (MW)

The 2018 Cinsault Ramnasgras is fully destemmed and fermented in concrete, then aged in foudres. It has a tertiary bouquet of tightly wound red fruit, a patina of concrete seeping into the aromatic profile. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening of crushed strawberry, red cherries and hints of fennel, nicely defined if needing just a little more intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with a tertiary opening. This Cinsault is quite peppery in style, leaving the mouth tingling with Szechuan pepper notes long after it has departed. Very fine. (NM)

This is one of the most interesting wines that I've had in the last six months. A bright nose of dried strawberry fruit, with tea leaf and minerals. A bit deeper on the palate with dark raspberry, riper strawberry, orange peel, additional minerals and a moderately chalky finish. So interesting and so much fun!

Notes

From a vineyard planted in the 1950s on granite soils. The fruit was fermented in whole clusters and then aged in foudre for 14 months before bottling.
