The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnement is another wine that flirts with perfection. A selection of the top barrels in the cellar, it has beautiful purity in its red and black fruits as well as notes of tobacco leaf, new leather, unsmoked tobacco, and sandalwood. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated, and powerful, it’s a stunning wine on every level that will benefit from just short-term bottle age and keep for 20-30 years.

A best-barrels blend, this year drawn primarily from the family's Oakville estate vineyard, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnement is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged entirely in new French oak. Despite that, there's awesome purity to this wine's fruit expression, with cassis and deep, loamy notes taking the lead. Full-bodied, richly concentrated and creamy-textured on the mid-palate, it finishes long and velvety. Wow. (JC)

A selection of the best barrels in the cellar, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnément possesses tremendous resonance and tons of sheer volume. Crushed raspberry, black cherry, blood orange, spice and lavender flow as this extroverted, flamboyant wine shows off its racy curves and super inviting personality. The Passionnément marries power, opulence and gravitas. (AG)

Notes

Joe Czerwinski's note's on the producer for Wine Advocate: "Frenchman Luc Morlet and his Sacramento-born wife, Jodie, have become part of the Napa Valley firmament. Luc's winemaking resumé includes five years at Newton and five years at Peter Michael, where he has continued to consult since he and Jodie established Morlet Family Vineyards in 2006. Today, Cabernet Sauvignon accounts for approximately two-thirds of their production, coming from their own vineyards in Knights Valley, Oakville and Saint Helena. The Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from Sonoma are based on per-acre lease arrangements, allowing Luc to manage the farming practices and yields in accordance with his own wishes." (3/2023)
