Vinous
Reviewed April 2020The 2016 Canon Chaigneau clearly has more fruit intensity on the nose, offering ample red cherry, raspberry, and strawberry aromas laced with soy. This is more Lalande-de-Pomerol than the 2015, with a subtle truffle note emerging with time. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, more purity than the preceding vintage and greater depth and silkier texture. All it lacks is just a little depth; otherwise, delicious. (NM)

This wine has the dry tannins of the vintage at this stage, which give a dense character that needs to soften and open out. As the underlying berry fruits come forward, this wine will begin to shine. (RV)

Leading out of the glass with heavy perfumed notes of jet black cherries along smoked meats and toasted soil, while zesty timbres of field vegetation define the drier oriented tannins through the palate. Savory flavors of tapped maple spill onto the forests' floor, resulting in an immodest wine of savor, value, and presence!

Another Right Bank wine that showcased the robust fruits and harmonious balance from a favorite recent vintage. Granted, 2016 may not be 2009 but it comes close in its brazen finesse and aplomb, with even modestly priced wines strutting their copious stuffing... easy to recommend for those seeking a sweet spot in their Bordeaux budget.

Don't be alarmed with the umami that you get first thing on the nose. This Bordeaux has more earthy, mushroom, and savory notes with fruity undertones. It is delicious with a short finish.
