Vinous
Reviewed September 2020Dark, vibrant red. Spice-accented raspberry, cherry cola and potpourri scents take on a smoky aspect as the wine opens up. Thanks to a core of juicy acidity, this wine conveys an impressive blend of power and delicacy to its sweet red and blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors. Fine-grained tannins come in late on the finish, which hangs on with strong, red-fruit- and floral-tinged persistence (JR).

From a great site in the Santa Lucia Highlands, the 2018 Pinot Noir Soberanes Vineyard sports a more ruby/purple (it's still translucent) hue to go with a spicy nose of cranberries, black cherries, sappy green herbs, and new leather. Nicely textured, medium-bodied, and balanced, drink it over the coming 7-8 years (JD).

Hints of gunflint and graphite accent the dried dark fruit and spice flavors, backed by firm acidity and tannins. Forest floor elements show on the savory finish. Drink now through 2024 (KM).
