2016 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino
93
James Suckling
Review Date: 11/2020A firm, chewy Brunello with cherry, walnut and black-truffle character, as well as tile undertones. It’s full-bodied with dark fruit and mahogany and cedar undertones. Tight and wooded at the moment, but should come round with bottle age. Give it time. Try after 2023.

Exclusively imported in small quantities, the 2016 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino represents one of the most celebrated vintages in recent history. Made from 100% Sangiovese, it delivers intense aromas of ripe cherry, dried herbs, and subtle earthiness. The palate is elegant and structured, with refined tannins and remarkable aging potential. A benchmark wine from a legendary vintage. Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is built around Sangiovese grown in the hills around Montalcino, with mandatory extended aging before release, including time in oak and bottle. The 2016 vintage is widely regarded as one of the strongest recent years for the appellation, with favorable conditions for structure and cellar development.
