Dense aromas of black cherry, plum, earth and whiffs of wood and the sauvage give way to sleek, delicious and detailed flavors that are finer but not denser, all wrapped in an equally attractively textured finish that is more structured. This too is very good for its level plus it should reward up to a decade of cellaring. *Outstanding*

Wine Advocate

Aromas of wild berries, smoked meats, orange rind and rich soil tones introduce the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, a medium to full-bodied, layered wine built around powdery tannins and lively acids. Bertrand Chevillon reported yields some 50% below average in 2019 but was justly delighted with the quality of the wines. This is another powerful, structured vintage at this address, but the wines are more vibrant than the fine 2018s and more structurally refined, too. As I've written before, this is one of my favorite addresses in all of Burgundy. Old vines, cultivated soils, moderate yields and long fermentations with entirely destemmed grapes are the order of the day at this address, with the Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes seeing some 20% new oak and the premiers crus 30%. Nuits' Tonnellerie Sirugue is the dominant supplier of barrels. (WK)

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Village showed just a little reduction on the nose, but it opens nicely in the glass to offer black cherry and raspberry fruit, the 10% new oak binding the aromas together. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, slightly chalky on the entry and displaying lovely blood orange notes and allspice toward the finish. Quite structured for a Village Cru, it deserves a couple of years in bottle. (NM)

Notes

90-92 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Dense rich purple, exciting, with a heady nose showing a touch of reduction. Really rich deep black cherry fruit, this is a power monkey but I still like it. There is a wonderful juicy energy that will give a great deal of pleasure, especially to those looking for a richer style of Pinot. Tasted: November 2020."
