Moncuit-Delos Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne

Review Date: 04/2019...the latest rendition of Moncuit's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is very successful, wafting from the glass with notes of lemon oil, green apple, wheat toast and fresh peach, followed by a medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural palate that's quite fruit-driven this year, with a broad attack, an open-knit but nicely incisive core and a precise finish. The year has lent the wine an unusually extroverted personality, but it remains true to its roots. (WK)

From Grand Cru vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, this beautiful, ripe wine is on top form. Great minerality mingles with some bottle age, fruit and toast in harmony. This rich bottling is ready to drink.

Nicole Moncuit’s Blanc de Blancs bottlings she labels as “Pierre Moncuit Delos” is made entirely from the family’s vineyards in Mesnil-sur-Oger, with the vines more than thirty years of age and the vins clairs going through full malolactic fermentation. The new release is entirely from the 2019 vintage, was raised in stainless steel and aged three years sur latte prior to its disgorgement in February of 2023. The finishing dosage is 3.5 grams per liter. The wine offers up a lovely nose of pear, apple, almond, chalky minerality, brioche and a topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and complex, with a good core of fruit, lovely chalky undertow, a fine spine of acidity, frothy mousse and a long, youthful and elegant finish. Good juice that is tasty out of the blocks, but will be even better with a few years’ worth of bottle age. (JG) 91+

The NV (2018) Brut Blanc de Blancs Delos Grand Cru is open-knit and easy to like. Higher dosage vis-à-vis the Extra Brut version is palpable in both the wine's textural feel and flavor profile. Ripe pear, spice, baked apple tart and jasmine are nicely delineated. Disgorged: July, 2023. (AG)

Email DejahThis is a great treat for us to have on our shelves and hands down one of my favorite grower Champagne houses. Since 1977, Nicole Moncuit, mostly involved in the vitculture and vinification side, while her brother Yves runs the commercial side of the business. Today, they are joined by Nicole's daughter Valerie. This all estate bottled-estate grown chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, smells of granny-smith apples, D'Anjou pears, ginger and yellow tea. The mouthfeel is delightful adding a racy minerality and very fine bubbles in its long and lengthy finish.
