Review Date: 03/2022From the great estate at high elevation, this wine is substantially structured and built to age, with dusty graphite notes and grippy tannin. Sage, currant and bay leaf ride a lengthy palate of savory intensity, a mix of tobacco, lavender and plum that are immensely pleasing and complex. *Cellar Selection* (VB)

This is a well-structured and piercingly pure version of Cabernet, with iron and floral details enlivening the compact core of kirsch, cassis and plum preserves that feels coiled with energy, built on acidity as much as tannins. Sweet bay leaf and sassafras notes chime through the fruit as this stretches out through the long, racy, mineral-driven finish. (JM)

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a potent, brooding wine with huge fruit and equally imposing tannins. The 2017 is frankly a miraculous wine. I tasted some of the lots at the end of the harvest, but before October fires forced the hand of the winemaking team, which simply was not able to press all the lots. The wines that were finished were racked into cask and then survived the onslaught of brutal fires that damaged the property and destroyed a number of buildings. Black cherry, gravel, menthol, game and earthy notes lend power to this decidedly burly, rustic Cabernet Sauvignon. I can't wait to taste this with a bit of bottle age. (AG)
