Another exquisite batch from the incomparable Maestra Berta Vasquez, this time a blend of three agave types matured for between nine and twenty-five years. Berta's reserved kindness masks the raw skill and passion she has for these special spirits. The agave was roasted underground for five days over black oak wood and then crushed by horse-drawn tahona, before a natural fermentation in Cypress vats for at least 8 days. Double distilled in March of 2021 on Berta's gorgeous tiny pot stills and adjusted only with heads and tails. Bottled at a surprisingly approachable 91.6-proof, which means plenty of tasty tails went into the final blend. Richly flavored, but without the smokey mesquite quality many might expect. While extremely complex, Berta is a master at coaxing the very best from these mystical plants, and each batch is bursting with unique nuance that few others are able to match. Only 110 liters produced. Alex White, the founder of Rezpiral, gives 30% of the proceeds from the sale of the "Series 6" mezcals back to the communities where each spirit is made. White and company have donated and transplanted more than 25,000 agave raised from seed in their nursery to mezcaleros throughout Oaxaca, demonstrating their singular commitment to fair train and sustainable agave spirit production.
