Decanter
Review Date: 07/2021Bright, vivid red fruit appeal, with bags of energy and vitality, power and warmth. Shows great concentration without being too wild. An altogether supremely satisfying glass of wine that isn't tiring or overbearing. A great price too. Outstanding!

Cigales is a wine region that we do not see frequently in the states. It is approximately halfway between Ribera del Duero, to its East, and Toro, to its west. It is not exactly located in the Duero river valley but it is along the Pisuerga river that feeds into the Duero on its journey to Portugal. It is a very old region, with historical importance but it has yet to make a big mark in the modern wine marketplace. Being on the same central plateau as Ribera del Duero it too is a region based on elevation, most vineyards are above 750 meters, it has a continental climate, and stony, very poor soils, and the primary varietal in Tempranillo.
