2019 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet

James Suckling
Review Date: 07/2021Apart from the hint of exotic fruit that complements the ripe-pear and discreet vanilla aromas, this is a classic example of Puligny-Montrachet, with the balance of creaminess and elegance we expect from this appellation. The finish is long and delicate. Drink or hold.

Ripe but cutting white-peach, lemon and yellow-apple flavors are struck by delicate hints of smoke, crushed stone and charred vanilla bean in this opulent village-level Burgundy. Matured 12 months in 25% new French oak, this rich, densely structured wine is brightened by streaks of zesty acidity. It's at peak now–2029. (AI)

Ripe and attractively layered aromas are comprised by freshly sliced white peach, acacia blossom and citrus confit. The succulent and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess a lovely mouthfeel that carries over to the balanced, sappy and impressively long finish. This is an excellent Puligny villages and well-worth checking out. *Burghound Outstanding!*

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Village shows commendable freshness on a nose that reveals hints of gunflint and wet limestone. The palate is well balanced with quite a pithy opening. Good depth here, and a slightly waxy texture, plus a dab of lemongrass toward the finish. This is very promising and punches above its weight. (NM)
