The prestige of Montosoli is on full display in the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino from Altesino. A gorgeous mélange of black raspberry and dried cherry is perfectly complemented by violet florals and hints of crushed stone. It flows across the palate with silken textures and polished red and black fruits, while an underscoring of tactile mineral tones adds an almost salty edginess toward the close. The 2013 finishes long and staining, now only gently tannic, leaving notes of licorice and spice that linger on and on. There’s a sensation of generosity here, yet also a balance that will carry it for many years to come. What a beauty. (EG)
