Koch El Mezcal is headed by Carlos Moreno, and the family is committed to sustainable cultivation and traditional methodology. They specialize in Wild Agave cultivation and operate three separate palenques, which distill in distinctly different styles. The excellent distiller in Sola de Vega is committed to the ancestral style most of the rest of his peers in this special village to the southwest of Oaxaca City. On the road to Porto Escondido, Vasquez uses clay pots for fermentation and distillation. Roasted in conical underground ovens and crushed by hand using wooden mallets, it's absolutely unprecedented that we're able to sell such a special and labor intensive product for so little - there is no ancestral mezcal anywhere on the market for this incredible price and very little even at twice the price that is as good.
