From mature vines and a majestic site, the completely destemmed fruit - fermented without punching down - gives a complete wine that is seductive even now and should continues to astonish with age. Layered and complex, the initial impression is of opulent black cherry fruit, liquorice and rose petals. On the palate, the wine is surprisingly fresh and firm, yet also shows an immediately appealing, voluptuous texture. This tightly packed wine will likely benefit from as much age as you can stand to give it. (CC)

The 2019 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a wondrous nose, with crushed strawberry, raspberry compote and light vanilla scents. The oak here is supremely well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied and mineral-driven, with fine tannins, great precision and a vivid, animated finish that fans out gloriously. Skillful winemaking is evident here. This coheres magically with time in the glass until you can resist no more! This completely outclasses the Bonnes-Mares.

This too is quite aromatically restrained though aggressive swirling does eventually coax the pure and elegant aromas to emerge and when they do, they are almost a hypothetical blend of the Amoureuses and the Bonnes Mares. The concentrated, powerful and decidedly muscular flavors retain plenty of refinement and minerality that conclude in a wonderfully complex and superbly long finale. The mid-palate texture is akin to rolling rocks around in the mouth and the finish just goes on and on. This too is brilliant, and the word Zen definitely comes to mind. *Don't Miss!*

An intense purple with a very blackcurrant nose. Concentration in the middle with considerable intensity at the finish, but the blackcurrant and bramble fruit profile is a little monolithic, though much fresher than the de Vogüé Bonnes Mares. Admirable intensity and persistence. For the long term.
