With the 4th iteration of their Fusion Series, Bardstown Bourbon Company continues to show us why they have quickly become one of the most important names in whiskey. While still using a 13-year old sourced bourbon as the anchor, they now use 3 different, younger distillates of their own making to balance out the bottle. The highlight for me comes from their super high-rye (60% corn-40% rye) mash bill. Also of note, is the lack of wheat used in any of the 4 recipes this time around. As always, the details and percentage of each mash bill are transparently printed on the label. The outcome is a wonderful blend showcasing a rich nose of apples, cinnamon, and rye spiciness followed by a classic bourbon taste profile of salted caramel, nuts, and a touch of oak. Overall, Fusion #4 is showing the growth of Bardstown as it literally matures with every release. Bourbon fans should be picking up these Fusion Series bottles before they become hard to get. At half the price of the Bardstown Discovery series, this bottle is a great deal.
