In Fallon, Nevada - a small town in the high desert east of Reno - lies a 1,500-acre ranch that has been farmed by the same family since 1854. In 2006, Colby Frey, 5th generation farmer, began to distill a small portion of his hard-won grain. Fifteen years later we finally have our first release in Northern California of Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon. This whiskey is 100% estate produced. That is to say everything is done there. Grains are grown, malted, distilled, matured, and bottled (without chill-filtration) on the ranch. The mashbill is a compelling four grain mix comprised of 66.6% Non-GMO corn, 11.4% Winter Cereal Rye, 10% Winter Wheat, and 12% Two Row Barley. The flavors range from oak and citrus to honey, vanilla, caramel, and a complex array of cedar, peppercorn, and fresh hay. A spectacular job from a true "whiskey farmer."
