2014 Justin "Reserve" Paso Robles Tempranillo
Notes
Tempranillo is a notoriously difficult grape to grow well outside of Spain, due to its preference for the highly specific climatic conditions of the Spanish central plateau. However, Justin seems to have found a way to make the variety thrive in Paso Robles warm, dry climate and as a result, they produce one of the most compelling examples of domestic Tempranillo on the market. Founded in 1981 by Justin Baldwin, JUSTIN was one of the early estates to push Paso Robles beyond bulk wine and into serious, estate-driven bottlings. The Reserve label generally sits above the winery’s broader appellation releases, with smaller-lot selections used to highlight varieties that have proved especially well suited to their Paso Robles sites.
