Billecart-Salmon Brut Nature Champagne
94
James Suckling
Review Date: 12/2020A dense, layered Champagne with a full body and lots of creamy texture. Lovely cooked apple and pie crust. 40% pinot meunier, 30% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir. The base was 2015, but in total it contains 10 harvests. It was bottled at the beginning of 2016 and disgorged in March 2020. Four years on lees. Fantastic release.

A sophisticated wine (a blend of the three Champagne grapes), this is a new release from this producer. It is dry, but the ripeness of the fruit offers a fine balance with the crisp, green-apple texture. (RV)

Firm and minerally, this tightly meshed Champagne carries delicate notes of orchard blossom, Asian pear, toast point and oyster shell on the finely detailed mousse.

The base of the NV Champagne Brut Nature is from the 2015 vintage, with 40% from 2013 and 2014, and 15% perpetual reserve started in 2022. It pours with a light golden ad copper hue, and is fragrant with golden yellow fruits of pear, chamomile, and a touch of raw honey. There is a rounded feel up front, although it is fully dry, with more yellow apple, bruised Myer lemon, and chalky texture driving down the palate. I feel this wine will develop a bit more quickly although it is in a good place now or over the coming 10 years. (AF)

Email KateA gorgeous wine whose breadth belies the "brut nature" designation. It's got driven acidity and a fullness on the palate with notes of baked apple, pastry, and spice. The base is from the 2015 vintage with a high percentage of reserve wines. They use a solera system, and the wines date from 2006 to 2014. 40% Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir.

Email DejahThere is a firmness of bright tangerine and chalk on the nose, the plus, plus acidity stands out and performs a tight pull on the sides of the cheeks. This is my style of Champers. Great acidity and bright not so subtle acidity. This is a winner! In the end the slightness of fresh dill and lemongrass head the florals but the zesty-ness of Meunier is the host here. Super fresh flavors and a lingering finish.
