2014 La Encantada "Estate" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

No, this isn't a typo... La Encantada Estate Pinot Noir at 60% off. And it's darn delicious and drinking beautifully. The reality is that 2020 has been a topsy-turvy year and many wineries that relied on restaurants and tasting room sales have been left in tough positions. Sometimes what makes the most sense is to find someone who will take the entire vintage at a deep discount and move that wine along. That is exactly what happened here. Some samples of this wine arrived on my desk, my interest was immediately piqued as I love many of the wines that come from this spectacular vineyard. La Encantada is nestled right in the "Grand Cru" neighborhood of the Sta. Rita Hills with neighbors such as Sanford & Benedict and Fiddlestix. Several iconic wineries bottle vineyard designates of this renowned site including: Tyler, Foxen, Alma Rosa and Buonaccorsi. These wines typically sell for $50+. This La Encantada Estate release is direct from the owners of the vineyard crafted for them by veteran winemaker Doug Margerum. It captures everything that has made this fruit so highly sought after by Santa Barbara's top winemakers. Perched on a hillside in the southwest of the region, this vineyard is buffeted by coastal breezes, the vines grow in complex soils of clay, diatomaceous shale and flint or chert. The resulting wines have great concentration of color and flavor combining deep, brooding red fruits with dusty mineral tones, stuck flint, dried herbs and ferrous notes. A more elegant style embracing restrained fruit and complex earth and mineral notes. Very serious Pinot Noir for an almost trivial price! This is a one time deal, when it's gone it's gone.
