1992 Domaine Aleth Le Royer-Girardin Pommard 1er Cru "Rugiens"

BH

Burghound

Review Date: 03/1995

Very forward with richly expressive, earthy and nicely complex red pinot fruit that leads to medium weight, somewhat one-dimensional flavors of moderate depth and length. Approachable now but better in a few years. Perfectly acceptable quality for the vintage if not better.

Notes

Aleth Girardin is a member of one of Beaune's most prominent families, the daughter of Armand Girardin. Having married the actor Michel Le Royer, she changed the name of the domaine to Le Royer-Girardin. However, having some time thereafter divorced the actor, she changed the name back to simply Aleth Girardin. Her holdings in Pommard's spectacular Les Rugiens vineyard total just .41 hectares, but the wine is an outstanding representation of the structure and depth that make this one of the most respected sites in the appellation.
