Honey, dried and cooked apples, almonds, orange peel and lemon blossom on the nose, followed by a creamy, silky and layered palate. Very soft bubbles. Delicious almond aromas linger. 100% chardonnay. Base vintage 2020 with 52% reserve wines. Disgorged in 2024. Dosage 8g/L.

The 52% of older reserve wines in this Champagne give it a lightly toasty aroma. Along with the ripe baked apple and pink-grapefruit flavors, the wine has a fine touch of maturity. (RV)

Green melon and almond with pronounced grapefruit peel. Satisfying biscuit and brioche with undertones of spices and white fruit. (Panel Tasting)

Full bottle 1,601 g. 100% Chardonnay, base wine is from the 2021 harvest. Disgorged January 2025. Dosage 7 g/l. On the nose, lemon, lemon blossom and a wraith of smoke. It feels, rather wonderfully, as if it fills my mouth like a single bubble – extremely delicate, iridescent, spherical and transparent. Neroli and bergamot, grapefruit sherbet, a touch of sour cherry. So pretty! Very different from its towering sibling Autolyse, tasted alongside. (TC) 17/20 Points.

The Le Brun de Neuville "Côte Blanche" Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne is from the chalky slopes of the Sézanne sub-region, the first place in Champagne to harvest, and the riper style comes through in this Meursault like cuvée. This all chardonnay champagne is fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees in the bottle for more than three years. The pear fruit is framed by baguette toast from the five years on the lees making a great partner for shellfish or sushi, but works perfectly on its own as well.

The Le Brun Cote Blanche BDB is a bottle of champagne I love to bring to parties. It is approachable for newbies and enjoyable for experienced champagne drinkers. Aromas of bartlett pear, fresh ginger, yellow melon upfront later the minerality, slight chalkiness, and soft richness express in the mouthfeel. The finish is altogether charming. So if you are seeking a high-quality Champagne that is under $60.00 this is the one and should not be missed.

Notes

From the little village of Bethon, the Le Brun de Neuville “Côte Blanche” Blanc de Blancs Champagne is one of the better deals we have had lately in champagne. This all-Chardonnay Champagnebenefits from 30% reserves from older vintages. The Sézanne sub region is a valley bordered by chalky hillsides covered in vines in the middle of a high plain of windfarms and wheat. This is the first place in Champagne to harvest, and the riper style of the region comes through in this Meursault like cuvée. The pear fruit is framed by baguette toast from the five years on the lees and this makes a great partner for shellfish or sushi.
