Donnhoff’s 2006 Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spatlese smells beautifully of iris, cherry, lime, and honey. Juicy melon and cherry fruit are underlain by subtle salinity on a satin-textured palate, and this finishes with terrific refreshment, refinement, and lift – wafting, lilting as though its finish were yet another long inhalation. It’s true, I’m crazy for what Donnhoff does with this site, but the reason the wine’s quality is so often underestimated by other critical observers of the wine scene is because it is inherently delicate and doesn’t demand that you pay attention. Those who fail to attend will leave more for the rest of us. (DS)

The rich flavors of peach, honeydew and grapefruit are backed by a sweet herbal note, finishing with tautly vibrant, concentrated acidity and long, fragrant length.

The 2006 Kirschheck Spätlese is also lovely this year, and will offer up immediate appeal once the wine is released. The bouquet is pure and compelling, as it offers up scents of white peach, white cherry, slate, petrol and a delicate note of leesiness. On the palate the wine is medium-full, round and utterly suave on the attack, with an impressive core of fruit this year, tangy acids, and an absolutely succulent and bouncy finish. Flat out delicious from the word go, this is a wine that will require extreme self-restraint not to drink in the bloom of youth.

A tightly wound, structured white, with creamy vanilla, sweet corn and floral aromas and flavors. There's fine harmony and balance, but this will take a few years to really sing. (BS, Web Only-2008)
