The 2018 Chardonnay B.A. Thieriot comes from a great vineyard located far out on the Sonoma Coast and was aged 14 months in 25-40% new French oak. It offers a more marine-influenced bouquet, with lots of salty minerality as well as notes of sliced green apple, white peach, toasted almonds, and toasted bread. Made in a more steely, racy style, it still has gorgeous concentration, flawless balance, and a great finish. This is a serious Chardonnay. Give bottles another year or two, and it's going to evolve for a decade.

The 2018 Chardonnay B.A. Thieriot combines the brilliance that is such a signature of this site with enough depth to make it approachable now. Tangerine, hazelnut, spice, lemon confit and sweet floral notes all open, framed by bright, saline underpinnings that confer energy as well as tension. (AG)

The 2018 Chardonnay B.A. Thieriot Vineyard is shy on the nose, offering flint, red apples and white blossoms with nutty nuances. The palate is silky, fresh and savory with mineral character lingering on the finish. This will benefit from another year or two in bottle. 185 cases produced. (EB) 92+

Notes

Senses is a tiny boutique winery located on the "true" Sonoma Coast. They have access to some of the finest vineyards along the Sonoma Coast and have the legendary winemaker Thomas Rivers-Brown at the helm. Co-founder, Max Thieriot's family purchased their vineyard in 1988 and had it planted by none other than the late great Warren Dutton of Dutton Ranch fame. This vineyard has been the source for great wines from Littorai, Williams-Selyem, Rivers-Marie, Neyers, and Landmark. Year after year it produces some of the top-rated wines in the country. The 2018 vintage for Senses is no exception. Winemaker Thomas Rivers-Brown possesses and expertise with Burgundian varietals and is passionate about the Occidental Sonoma Coast. He has been named "Winemaker-of-the-Year" by Food and Wine magazine and has over twenty 100 point rated wines to his name.
