2011 Alban "Estate" Edna Valley Roussanne

Wine Advocate
Review Date: 08/2013More tightly wound and even backwards, the 2011 Roussanne Estate needs another year in bottle to round into form. Barrel-fermented and aged in 25% new French oak, its medium gold color is followed by notions of orange blossom, buttered toast and grilled golden fruits on the nose. A big, rich wine that has an unctuous texture, juicy acidity and beautiful length, it will have a solid 5-7 year drink window, if not longer. (JD)

The 2011 Roussanne, from a steep hillside parcel, is a knockout. Honey, almonds, Earl Grey tea and apricot jam all meld together in the glass. An oily, viscous finish with floral overtones from the dollop of Viognier in the blend rounds things out in style. The 2011 was aged in 1/3rd new barrels, all of which it handled with impeccable grace. Alban fans should not miss this hugely delicious wine. (AG)
