Notes
Marqués de Murrieta was one of the two oldest historical bodegas to put Rioja on the map in the mid-19th century (the other one was Marqués de Riscal). This is an estate wine, with fruit coming from various parcels on their property just outside of Logroño. The gran reserva is marked by a healthy proportion of Mazuelo (around 7%), which thrives in this slightly warmer, drier area. 95 points, Tina Gellie - Decanter: "A very classy, elegant and seamless wine, that has gorgeous drinkability now, but will age 20 years more with ease. Restrained but open aromas of ripe dark-skinned plums, wild strawberries and darker brambles, the fruit richness shining through more here than the 2009. The palate is ripe, supple and very complete and complex. boasting cocoa powder tannins, balsamic acidity and vibrant black forest fruit richness." (11/2022)
