2018 Castelli Martinozzi Rosso di Montalcino
JS
James Suckling
Review Date: 08/2020Slightly earthy with spice and cherry character throughout. Balsamic note, too. It’s medium-bodied with a juicy finish. I like the funky, savory nature to this.

With a fun, sweet note on the close, the Castelli Martinozzi 2018 Rosso di Montalcino shows bright cherry and plum that appear with vivid intensity. The Rosso category of Sangiovese from Montalcino is almost always a great value wine to pair with simple home-cooked meals of pasta or the family meatloaf recipe, and this release of 25,000 bottles is one of those easy classics. Vinous aromas of crushed red berry carry over to the easygoing palate, along with star anise. Relaxed tannins and fresh acidity provide light support. (KO)

Email GregMartinozzi is situated in a veritable Murderers’ Row of quality and fame. Their vineyards sit near Soldera’s
Case Basse, Gaja’s Pieve Santa Restituta, Caprili, and Maté. The quality of their wines is phenomenal. The
nose of this Rosso is full of dark Marasca cherry with hints of Tuscan brush and Middle Eastern spice. It has a
long, linear feel to it, yet shows a wonderful freshness. The perfect wine for your Spaghetti Bolognese!
Notes

Its mixture of vines, olive groves, and woods provide an ideal growing location, which guarantees good quality wine even in trickier years. A rising star of the region, Martinozzi represents exceptional value, and the wines are sure to continue improving under the tutelage of Paolo Caciorgna.
