2018 Stoller Estate Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

2018 Stoller Estate Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

94

James Suckling

Review Date: 02/2020

Aromas of ripe, fresh, mixed cherries and a gentle, stony-mineral edge. This has really impressive depth and structure with such ripe and pure aromas of, red to dark cherries, making a very juicy impression on the long, fresh and flavorful palate.

If you're looking for a classic, benchmark example of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that delivers fantastic value for money, look no further. This bottling from Stoller Estate delivers beautifully pure, fresh, delicious, ripe berry fruits, and exotic Asian spices, all underscored by complex leaf litter, savory notes. The tannins are silky and fine, the acidity juicy and bright. Subtle oak tones wrap the whole thing into a very satisfying, quaffable bottle of Pinot Noir that you'll come back to time and time again. It's no wonder that Suckling dropped a huge 94 point review on this wine...we think it's well deserved, and all for under $25!

The 2018 vintage of Stoller's Estate Pinot Noir has a lot to offer for the fans of Oregon Pinot. Strawberry-rhubarb, cherry tart, and nutmeg on the palate, and a little bit of green on the note... There's a lot going on in this bottle, and for the money, this makes a great dinner party wine. This wine is very food friendly and it will go great with pork chops.

I've been a fan of Oregon Pinot Noir for quite some time and have had the chance to visit the Willamette Valley and its sub-regions multiple times over the years. Years ago, the wines were more defined by what they weren't, which was California, and what they might be, which is Burgundy. And after a recent tasting of many great contenders, I am happy to say they are now, purely Oregon (Willamette, really). The Stoller is the perfect rendition of this now codified style. A perfume of red fruit, freshly crushed flowers, and toasted spices are on the nose. The palate is awash in red cherry and raspberry fruit with a defining core of richness, but framed by structure. That is what I am looking for in Oregon, that framing structure with a streak of middle palate fruit that lifts the wine. If you want to see this region defined in a beautifully packaged style at a most handsome price, look no further than the Stoller Estate.

The surrounding mountain ranges buffer the vineyard, creating a warmer micro-climate that ensures consistent ripening. These south-facing, tightly-spaced vines are planted to Jory, the fertile and well-drained red soil that has come to define the Dundee Hills. Their vineyard is divided into 108 meticulously farmed sections and has 10 planted varieties. They pride themselves on running sustainable vineyards through a combination of responsible farming practices, innovative techniques, and cutting-edge scientific research. This approach helps them to continuously elevate the quality of the fruit they produce.
