Another outstanding effort from this estate is the NV Brut Reserve. Lightly hued with a crisp bouquet of crushed citrus, golden apples, and toasted brioche, it has medium-bodied richness, crisp acids, a great mousse, and shows a clean, precise vibe on the finish. It brings serious acidity yet still stays nicely balanced. It’s going to evolve for a solid decade.

Mostly from premier and grand cru villages in the Montagne de Reims, this wine is half Chardonnay, and that variety carries its flavors in a vinous direction. Pale golden-apple scents open to a rich, supple and heady Champagne, with some briny notes in the end. Pour it with skate Grenobloise.

A classic nose of white flowers, spice and orchard fruit, with brioche and toast in the background. Bright and accessible. (panel tasting)

Straight-shooting, light-peach and pastry style with a smooth palate that delivers a bright array of citrus and stone fruit. Tropical fruit to close.

This one of the toastiest, richest Champagnes, and I love the brioche, beure d’Issigny and Meyer lemon curd in this Champagne. I find that the hazelnut-like fruit of Verzenay stands out in this bottle. I love this as an apéritif, and I think it would also do very well with an equally decadent meal such as lobster. A toast to you!

Notes

This is a relatively new Champagne house, a cooperative in fact, established in 1947 by seven families of growers. Their focus is on fruit from the mountain of Reims, and this Champagne is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier and aged for a minimum of four years on the lees.
