Reviewed November 2013The Chaignots bottling chez Chevillon is always so appealing out of the blocks that I find that I generally have none left in my cellar five years out from any given vintage, though I buy the with great regularity. The 2012 is certainly going to be difficult to keep one’s hands off of once it arrives in the cellar, as it is a beautiful wine that promises to offer up (yet again) very fine drinking in its youth. The superb nose wafts from the glass in a sappy blend of red plums, cherries, cocoa, nutskin, a complex base of soil tones, vanillin oak and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and sappy, with excellent mid-palate depth, lovely transparency, good acids and excellent focus and grip on the long, suavely-tannic finish. This is a beautiful bottle in the making and an absolutely classic vintage for the Chevillon Chaignots. 92+

Vinous
The 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Chaignots is one of the more supple wines in this range. As such, it won't demand as much cellar time as many of the other Chevillon 2012s. Gently spiced notes open up in the glass, followed by sweet red berries, flowers and cinnamon. The 2012 is soft and understated, with lovely overall balance and tons of medium-term appeal. This is another gracious, totally inviting wine from Chevillon. (AG)

Wine Advocate
The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots comes from the northern flank of the vineyard It is endowed with a voluminous and positively generous bouquet packed to the rafters with dark berries and autumn forest aromas the proliferate in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins that lend it a foursquare nature. Like many of Chevillon’s 2012s, this is 'neat' and focused with a structured harmonious finish that is well-behaved. It will provide fine early drinking pleasure and shows great class. (NM)

Burghound
A spicy nose offers a subtle step up in aromatic elegance with its very fresh nose of black raspberry and soft earth hints. There is good verve and detail to the lightly mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that possess good volume and phenolic maturity of the structural elements, all wrapped in a tight and moderately austere finish.
