A huge success in the vintage is the 2015 Château Suduiraut and this gem goes a long way towards showing how successful the sweet wines were in 2015. Offering a massive array of orange peel, honey, marmalade, flowers, and toasted nuts, this incredible wine hits the palate with a thunderous display of opulence, richness, and length, all while staying fresh, elegant, and seamless. It has a huge mid-palate and is reminiscent of the 2003, only with more freshness and delineation.

One of the most singular wines in this vertical tasting, the 2015 Suduiraut possesses a deep, complex bouquet of exotic fruits, pineapple, white flowers and ripe orchard fruits mingled with vanilla pod and menthol hints. Medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated with an enveloping palate, it has a fleshy core of fruit, controlled power and a delicate, gourmand and penetrating finish. It elegantly combines finesse and power. One of my favorites, this blend of 94% Sémillon and 6% Sauvignon Blanc is a splendid bottle in the making after a minimum of 15-25 years in the cellar, even if it is approachable right now. Matured for 18 months in oak barrels (50% new and 50% one-year-old), it contains 138 grams per liter of residual sugar and was produced at a yield of 16 hectoliters per hectare. (YC) 98+

The Wine Palate

The 2015 Suduiraut has 150 g/l residual sugar. Pale to medium gold in color, it strolls out of the glass with forward, up-front scents of dried apricots, mango pudding, and pineapple upside-down cake, followed by hints of acacia honey, candied ginger, and wild fungi, plus a touch of allspice. The palate is fantastically fresh, with satisfying flamboyance, delivering loads of tropical fruit and baking spice layers, finishing long with a gingery lift. (LPB)

Naturally rich, but with fine acidity and a lift of freshness, this is a ripe and perfumed wine. The honey and orange marmalade flavors are there along with lemon jelly and a sense of structure. It is a balanced, poised wine from a fine vintage. (RV)

With near-perfect, best-in-class press, an exceptional vintage, a touch of bottle age, and one of Bordeaux’s premier producers behind it, 2015 Château Suduiraut is easily one of the sharpest buys in collectible wine—and an absolute joy to taste. Our recently landed parcel comes direct from the estate, and the 375ml format makes it an especially compelling addition to any cellar. I always recommend keeping Sauternes on hand, but if you're looking for an experience that shows the heights of the style—at a price that makes opening a bottle feel easy, and with impeccable provenance—this is it. Aromatically, it’s a panoply of stone fruit, kiwi, orange blossom, and ever-evolving nuance as it opens in the glass. On the palate, the texture is refined, but the flavor is explosive: grilled pineapple, honeycomb, peach, and Meyer lemon, with a sweetness and acidity in perfect harmony. The balance of botrytis, sugar, and freshness is masterful—rich but never fatiguing, endlessly complex, and deeply layered. This is a true rival to the greatest Sauternes of the past decade, and I think it might even give Yquem a run for its money in one of the region's great vintages, 2015. Open it now or cellar it for decades. Either way, if you keep just one Sauternes on hand, make it this one—it punches far above its price and delivers a world-class experience every time.

The 2015 Suduiraut Sauternes is a blend of 94% Sémillon and 6% Sauvignon Blanc, aged 18 months in equal parts new and used oak barrels (3.8 g/L TA, 138 g/L residual sugar). It seamlessly delivers caramelized apricot, orange blossom honey, barley sugar candies, hints of green tea, fresh jasmine, and lightly toasted cashew—all lifted by a bright thread of tangerine zest. Perfectly poised between freshness and opulence, it finishes with waves of honeyed apricot. I picked up a bottle last week on the recommendation of our Bordeaux buyer; after tasting it just now, I immediately went back for another.

Super pretty nose filled with honey, white peach, candied orange peel, white flowers, and a little bit of beeswax. The palate has a really delicious and amazing texture, there's dense honeyed apricots, orange zest, marzipan, and more white flowers with a little bit of white tea on the finish. It maintains a really nice level of sweetness, landing in a lovely spot that is sweet enough for dessert but with enough acidity to stop it from being cloying or just too darn much. This is a very serious yummy lil Sauternes that will inevitably age very well over the next 50+ years if you let it, but is absolutely delicious right now or tonight after dinner. One of my favorite things to do with Sauternes is just have a little bit every night over a week or two and taste how the bottle opens up and develops. It's also a great excuse to always have a bottle of Sauternes open in the fridge for when you feel like you deserve a little treat.
