How many times do you come across a wine that is this good, and totally unlike anything else in the store? That's what I asked myself while trying the Mocali Toscano. The nose is full of sultry aromas of blackened earth and cassis. This wine is incredibly earthy and savory. The texture is rich and mouthcoating. There is a touch of rustic tannin for good measure, but excellent acid balance. I can't believe I'm saying this about a Cabernet Sauvignon, but it is utterly, unmistakably Italian. At $15, this is one of the new heavy hitters.
