I'm always excited to see the Damein Hugot back on our shelves! The extra brut is my favorite in the line up, it's expressive, pretty, and sits at a great price point. The nose is inviting, with aromas of orchard fruit, lemon, and honey. On the palate you get notes of yellow apple and a lovely creamy texture balanced by punchy acidity. This is a great crowd pleaser, pick up a bottle or two for your next party!

Damien Hugot always impresses me with the acidity and precision of his wines, and this is no exception. Comprised of fruit from Grand Cru sites in Cramant and Chouilly, this wine has that trademark Hugot acidity, but also with lots of citrus and limoncello notes. And although it's an Extra Brut, it is rich and creamy so as not to be austere. It's a balanced, delicious bottle of Champagne at a great price!

Damian Hugot's Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is 70% harvest year fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the acidity, and 30% perpetual reserve that is aged in a foudre (very large barrel!). Viscous, creamy mouthfeel with notes of fresh sourdough, citrus, ginger, green apple, and stone fruit in syrup. Rich, tropical, with great balance, freshness, and complexity.

This excellent Champagne is always a standout for me as it has a wonderful tension or verve to it. It's a bright and pure expression of Chardonnay with a crisp palate of lemon citrus and orchard fruit that offers great intensity and persistence.

Notes

This extra brut is not nearly as dry and steely as one might expect, as it is sourced from the Hugot estate's very old massal selected vineyards in the grand cru's of Cramant and Chouilly. It is Meursault-like in its richness, with subtle pineapple notes framed by fresh baguette flavors. Don't be afraid to drink this as an aperitif! It is quite rich and broad for an extra brut!
