Sour apple-candy aromas have cooling, herbaceous notes. A soft, mouthfilling mousse carries that sour green-apple note onto the palate. It’s hit with saline minerality, trailing into an herbaceous, refreshing finish. Although most sparkling wines pair well with a variety of foods, this one is especially epicurean. (LS)

This wine’s candied-apple flavors meet some malic acidity, making it fleshy and refreshing in a rustic way.

This wine is an exceptional value!! It easily stands toe-to-toe with any sparkling wine from around the world in a similar price point. A rich, creamy mousse is followed up by white flower and zesty citrus notes with an underlining note of limestone that echoes throughout this wonderful sparkler. A great everyday or special celebration wine I cannot believe the quality here for such a low price, if you have been buying Prosecco, Cava or sparkling wines from other regions of the world you owe it to your self to check out the Pierre Sparr Cremant d'Alsace Brut.

This offers a full mousse filled with green apple, lilac and honeysuckle that is mouth filling and refreshing. There is a citric tug on the finish which hints at green tea, talc and limestone minerality. This is a great value and an overall delicious bottle of bubbly.

This is an absolute superb Alsatian sparkling made up of 80% Pinot blanc and 20% Pinot Auxerrois. Lined with an abundance of spiced pear, baked apple and a sprinkling of cinnamon on the nose, then leaning into a more tropical taste on the palate of pineapple, agave and honey. Finishing dry, bright and yeasty. Great mouthfeel and a perfect aperitif if paired with light snacks or just mid day enjoyment.

Notes

The Sparr winery has more than a little experience making wine in Alsace, having been founded by Jean Sparr back in the ’80s — the 1680s that is. Nine successive generations have labored to maintain and expand their wine estate. In more recent news, young Pierre Sparr, aged 20, assumed responsibilities for the winery in the early 20th century. With a forward-thinking motto of “invest, progress, and maintain,” Pierre became a pioneer in estate bottling in Alsace. He maintained a sense of determination through World War II, and rebuilt his family’s beautiful domaine after a protracted battle between US and German units destroyed his village of Sigolsheim and its vineyards in late 1944. Today, Maison Pierre Sparr farms 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyards and sources fruit from another 150 hectares (370 acres) farmed by growers who share their philosophy. One exciting new change at Pierre Sparr is the elevation of Alexandra Boudrot to the position of cellar master. Alexandra has worked in Alsace for 12 years and has a degree in winemaking from the University of Dijon. She grew up in Nuits-St-Georges and has a passion for organic and sustainable farming. The wines of Pierre Sparr represent some of the best values in Alsace.
