This is rare stuff! The Lamoureux Pinot Blanc is one of the very few champagnes to be bottled exclusively with this grape variety, and it has been five years since we got an allocation- Vivien Lamoureux rarely has enough of this to load the press! I love the candied citrus exoticism that show on top of the pain au levin like aromatics, and the richer texture that this grape variety brings. This is broad, silky Champagne, but still has the bead, refreshment and length of top-quality Champagne. I love the hint of pumpkin on the finish and think this would be excellent with any white fish. Don't fall in love, it might be years until we get more!

Very distinctive and aromatic, with tons of floral character, like fresh flower petals, layered with a gentle creaminess. An interesting and expressive Champagne with a unique personality. It stands out for its perfume and softness, offering something a little different from the more classic Chardonnay- or Pinot Noir-driven styles.

The three noble grapes of Champagne are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier, but there are four other OG grapes that are part of Champagne's storied history and are still legally allowed to be used in champagne, though rare. Jean Jacques Lamoureux's Les Amoureux is one of those rare champagnes - it's 100% Pinot Blanc planted in 2010! Pinot Blanc is still used frequently in the crémants of Alsace, but you have to search for one in Champagne and when you do find one it's usually blended with the other three - Pinot Gris, Petite Meslier, and Arbanne. If you've ever wondered what a pre-World War I champagne tastes like, the Amoureux is your ticket to a different era. Aromatic and exotic, many of the flavors are familiar - peach, citrus, pear, apple, and almond, but the floral and herbal elements reveal a cuvee that is out of the ordinary. This is a great sparkler that is a liquid unicorn!

An incredible rare champagne, one press loads worth per year to be exact. If you're looking for something different from Champagne, this 100% Pinot Blanc wine is perfect for you. On the palate, this wine has notes of apricot, white peach, apple, and tart lemon juice, tied together with bright acidity and a bone-dry finish.

Notes

We only received 300 bottles of this all Pinot Blanc rarity from Lamoureux, an all- estate-grown Champagne from Les Riceys, just three miles from the border with Burgundy. This comes from a half-acre parcel that only yields one press load each year, but sadly in some years yields nothing as Pinot Blanc buds early and is prone to early frost. This has seen three years of aging on the lees and has some very nice toasty quality to go with the exotic fruit of the Pinot Blanc. Best of all, this broad, rich Champagne finishes dry but not austere. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
