Jean-Jacques Lamoureux "Les Amoureux" Pinot Blanc Champagne

This is rare stuff! The Lamoureux Pinot Blanc is one of the very few champagnes to be bottled exclusively with this grape variety, and it has been five years since we got an allocation- Vivien Lamoureux rarely has enough of this to load the press! I love the candied citrus exoticism that show on top of the pain au levin like aromatics, and the richer texture that this grape variety brings. This is broad, silky Champagne, but still has the bead, refreshment and length of top-quality Champagne. I love the hint of pumpkin on the finish and think this would be excellent with any white fish. Don't fall in love, it might be years until we get more!

An incredible rare champagne, one press loads worth per year to be exact. If you're looking for something different from Champagne, this 100% Pinot Blanc wine is perfect for you. On the palate, this wine has notes of apricot, white peach, apple, and tart lemon juice, tied together with bright acidity and a bone-dry finish.
A rare all-Pinot-Blanc Champagne and a genuine conversation piece. Apricot and orchard fruit lead on the nose, with a toasty edge and a slight floral note adding intrigue. The palate is fresh and lively with nice acidity holding everything in line, finishing dry with surprising length. Distinctive, food-friendly, and unlike anything else on the shelf—seek it out.

This has long been a go-to bottle for when someone wants "something different" in the mystical land of Champagne, and often hits the right mark. It's a glorious nexus of price and intrigue, where most people are happy to put down this much at least for a new experience. The fruit has this white peach note at the very outset, then we get into some apples, some lemon, and a little bit of white flowers. The palate is a little juicy, but also incredibly dry with great acidity pushing through the whole palate, driving forward green apple, white peach, a myriad of lemons, candy, juice, and zest. I enjoy this a lot and get a couple bottles every year, and it never fails to deliver a slightly different Champagne experience.

Notes

We only received 300 bottles of this all Pinot Blanc rarity from Lamoureux, an all- estate-grown Champagne from Les Riceys, just three miles from the border with Burgundy. This comes from a half-acre parcel that only yields one press load each year, but sadly in some years yields nothing as Pinot Blanc buds early and is prone to early frost. This has seen three years of aging on the lees and has some very nice toasty quality to go with the exotic fruit of the Pinot Blanc. Best of all, this broad, rich Champagne finishes dry but not austere. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
