Very prominent high toast new French Oak, with sweet fruit and lots of intensity. This wine is surprisingly forward, soft and lovely. Bigger and oakier than the Cazetiers. This wine is much more seductive in style than is typical for LeClerc, who is about the most unlikely character you'd expect to run into in a place like Burgundy. He looks like a Hell's Angels bike rider, and when we visited his property in the spring of 1999 he showed us the night club that he's building. We'll need a few more glasses of these '96s before we hit that place once it opens.
