As with the Chardonnay, the 2017 Pinot Noir is incredibly high-quality. Mostly destemmed (there are 10% whole clusters) and aged 15 months in barrel, this ruby-colored effort from the Russian River Valley gives up a great nose of black cherries, smoked herbs, and spring flowers, with a hint of forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, with sweet tannins and terrific balance, it's another classic wine from Rochioli that will evolve nicely for upwards of a decade. Drink through 2029.

The 2017 Pinot Noir Estate is a stellar wine and a real overachiever in this range. Rich, sumptuous and racy in the glass, this super-expressive, inviting Pinot Noir delivers a rush of dark cherry, plum, spice, leather and cedar. Don't miss it. (AG)

A ripe and decidedly spicy nose combines both upper and lower register fruit along with hints of sandalwood and exotic tea. There is very good richness and volume to the relatively sleek and delicious middle weight flavors that possess solid length and pretty good depth though more should develop with 5 or so years of bottle age. Note that this attractive effort should be approachable young if desired. 2025+

Notes

The Rochioli family were Italian immigrants that settled in the Russian River Valley in the early 1900s and soon after started growing grapes for simple jug wines. Joe Rochioli Jr. planted Pinot Noir in 1968 and some of the pioneering wineries of the area were the first buyers. The family released its first wine under its own label in 1987.
