A greater proportion of Syrah than Grenache lends freshness and vitality to this crisp, medium-bodied red. Beautifully perfumed it offers loads of fresh rose-petal and black-cherry tones. Concentrated but invigorating, it finishes long on cutting red-cherry acidity and fine, feathery tannins. (ALI)

Fresh, breezy, aerial scents of raspberry and red cherry. A medium-bodied style that's fresh and lively, with some dried herbes de Provence among the Victoria plum fruit on the finish. A balanced, drinkable style that's gentle on the extraction. (MW)

A recent tasting with the folks of Domaine de l'Amandine affirmed my original feelings when I met them last year - they are one of my favorite new producers in our portfolio of Direct Imports. The Cotes du Rhone range is made up of wonderful bright and fruit filled wines with spot-on regional character. It is the flagship Seguret wine that really hits the mark though. The Seguret opens with a lovely red fruited nose of strawberry and cherry and a gorgeous perfume of violets and lavender. The structure offers fine tannins and plenty of balancing acidity making this the perfect daily sipper but also great with food. The 2016 finds a harmonious mix of a great vintage and an upstart producer emerging to become one of the new hot properties of the Rhone. All that and we have it for a fraction of what it might cost you elsewhere. This is one property to keep your eye on.

If you're searching for a tremendous Rhone value you will certainly be thrilled with this full-bodied blend of Syrah and Grenache. With a nose that brims with classic red fruits and wild garrigue, and oozing with flavors of ripe berries and baking spice, this is a powerful wine but it remains very bright and fresh thanks to balancing acidity. Fabulous deal!

What a value! This is a complex Rhône blend, with high-toned berry fruit and a great peppery finish, thanks to 60% spicy Syrah. This vintage of Domaine de l'Amandine is vibrant but earthy, fruit-forward yet herbaceous, full-bodied and versatile. And although it’s easygoing enough to drink tonight, the 2016 will also age beautifully.

Notes

L'Amandine was established in 1968 by Jean-Pierre Verdeau who followed the tradition of winemaking in his family. Born in the region, Jean-Pierre continues to work in the vineyards and is now joined by his son-in-law, Alex Suter (whose father was the vineyard manager of Rustenberg winery in South Africa). They work together to build on the successes of the past and look to the future. Seguret is one of the most picturesque villages in the southern Rhône, built into the hillside and overlooking the surrounding vineyards. The soils are made up of primarily clay and sandstone with limestone scree scattered throughout the vineyards. The winery still uses the concrete tanks that Jean-Pierre installed by hand back in the day with a few new ones added as they have slowly expanded their holdings. The Seguret is made up of Syrah and Grenache, is destemmed and is aged all in concrete tanks. The results are a bright fleshy red fruited wine that shows great purity and the typicity of this lovely region.
